My 2 Minutes of Fame

Today was a cool day. I was quoted in the latest issue of the Central Penn Business Journal. The journalist, Jim Ryan, was inspired to write the article, “Blog can show bussiness’ human side, spark conversation with client,” after he heard about our Corporate Blogging Geek Camp at Cimbrian.

I’m sure it sounds silly, but it’s cool to be in the newspaper (unless you’re in the obituary I guess … or maybe that’s cool ::shrugs::) This article, however, is particularly special to me. It’s the first time I’ve had my professional opinion published.

So … of course … I made a bunch of copies and have been dropping them off to family (I’m a dork). If I wasn’t concerned about being busted for copyright infringement, I’d have it posted here!

So go pick up a Central Penn Business Journal … or stop by and I’ll give you one of my copies. ;-)

A Like Minded Individual

Jeff Cornwall, Director of Belmont University, recently made a comment in a blog article, “I’ve Got a Secret” that fits with my philosophy 100%.

“Always keep in mind that success comes from sound execution and implementation much more than the idea itself. Ideas can be a dime a dozen. Even if someone does steal your idea, it doesn’t mean that they can make a successful business out of it.

Ultimately, success comes from the ability to secure needed resources, build the right team and understand the market and your potential customers.”

I guess I’m not the only one who believes, “It is the execution, not the idea, that is original.” ;-)

200mph on a 1-Lane Highway

The “Renderminator” finally arrived! I’ve had it for a little over a week and have got to be honest. I’m a bit underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong, it’s got zip, but not as much as I thought it would. Instead of a massive boost of performance, like I was expecting, it seems to have improved my ability to multitask instead.

After doing some research, I found out why (and the answer won’t surprise you). The applications I’m running aren’t written to take advantage of my new horsepower. The flip side, is since a single application doesn’t take full advantage of the available hardware, there is plenty of room to run other programs.

It’s Coming…

BrianShoff.com is undergoing some minor surgery. It’s upgrading to the latest version of Wordpress, installing some hip new plugins, and adding some new community features.

As always, the project is taking longer than anticipated, but I think you’ll like what you see. Hopefully the changes will make this blog better for all of us!

While I’m making some changes… any suggestions?

Eat Anything, Never Exercise… Lose Weight?

Eat Anything, Lose WeightWe all know that diet and exercise are the key components to any weight loss plan. But what if you just can’t find the motivation? Maybe you watch your diet and exercise regularly but aren’t getting results? Wouldn’t it be great if there was something out there that could help you lose weight with zero effort?

New findings at the Salk Institute could be the answer you’re looking for.

Attention Readers! I’m Stuck!

I keep swinging back and forth when considering whether to break BrianShoff.com into smaller, niche blogs or leaving it as you see it now, broken into categories. I mentioned in a previous post my intentions for the domains I’d be using for these niche sites.

After noticing that I have approximately 16 RSS subscribers, I would like to ask them and anyone else who reads this post to give me their opinion! As a subscriber, do you care if one day you read a post regarding my personal life and a rant about my center turning lane rage the next? Or would you prefer only reading one, focused blog? You could easily subscribe to them all, but if you wanted to read about my thoughts on marketing and could care less about my brother getting married, then you could.

Please please please… if you ever had an urge to post a comment… THIS WOULD BE THE ONE TO DO IT. I would appreciate any opinion, no matter what size. If you’re feeling really helpful, click the “Email this Post” link under the title of this article and get your friends involved.

Until I get this settled… I can’t move forward. I’m in analysis paralysis! Help! :-)

My 1st eCommerce Class & eBook

My Upcoming eCommerce Class & eBookI’ve got some good news and bad news.

The good news is, I’m beginning development of my first eCommerce class and supporting free eBook “An Introduction to Building Your Own eCommerce Store”. The bad news is, BrianShoff.com will not be updated as frequently. So to the 5 people that read my blog… I’m sorry. ;-)

I’m hoping to have both the class and eBook ready for March when the Eastern York Area Recreation Commission is building their new class schedule. If everything goes as planned, I’ll be teaching local enrichment classes like these.

  • Help Me Make It Great

If you’ve ever had an interest in eCommerce, or were every curious, please post a comment or email me your questions! I’ll make sure to address them in the book so when it’s released, you’ll get the answers you were looking for. Your questions will help me make my first eBook something to talk about.

I Found Another Shoffy!

The Other ShoffyThough I admit that this isn’t really “news”, but yet again, I’ve found someone with my name! Actually… my nickname. Since my last name is “Shoff”, my friends tacked on a “y” and turned me into Shoffy (brilliant, I know). Now today, through a Google Alert, I’ve found another Shoffy. And they appear to be a girl! I wonder how she got her name…

Anyway, here are pictures of her on Flickr. Perhaps she lives in DC like this other Shoffy?
